In response to the tragic earthquake in Nepal, this website has been created as a place to allow aid agencies to download helpful reports and educational picture-based lessons to assist affected farmers. We have recommended 10 inexpensive products to help farmers recover in the short term, each accompanied by a graphical lesson.
Some of the products were chosen because they can help with earthquake relief efforts and can then be re-purposed to improve farm productivity. The 10 graphical lesson sets (shown below) are open access and are meant to be distributed alongside the 10 products as instructional materials, especially to empower illiterate women farmers. Combined, the products, seeds and graphics form a regional emergency Sustainable Agriculture Kit (eSAK), a menu from which an individual household may only need or want one item.

Since most villages typically have some level of literacy, illustrations with step-by-step text captions in English or Nepali script have been included following a farmer focus group.

These resources are being created by the SAKNepal project at the University of Guelph in Canada, in partnership with a Nepalese agricultural research NGO, LI-BIRD, who are actively providing relief to farmers. The graphic lessons were created by Lisa Smith. Nepali translations were done by Kamal Khadka with support from Dr. Tejendra Chapagain. Please contact Prof. Manish Raizada to provide feedback (raizada@uoguelph.ca).

This website will be updated in real time as resources are generated or modified after feedback from Nepalese farmer focus groups.
